Title: I must be thick
Post by: mikejmac on November 26, 2007, 05:31:24 PM
Hi

Sorry, I must be thick because I am having one heck of a time trying to figure out how to install Ad Management mod V 2.3 on my forum.

First I better tell you that this will be my first mod package that I am attempting to install.  I started out with the last version of SMF which I uploaded to my server with Fantastico on the server.  From this SMF Community forum thread simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=124064.0 I was also able to make my forum so it does not display the members e-mail address to them and also hide their address by default.  Since then I was able to upgrade to SMF version 1.1.4 with the click of a button in my forum control panel.

So from what I have gathered so far I need to log into my forum, go to my control panel, Packages, then 'Download Packages'.  From there I see 3 sections under Download New Packages.  The first section is titled 'Package servers' with 'Simple Machines Third-party Mod Site', Browse and Delete under it.  The second section is titled 'Add server' with Server name: and SMF in the box to the right of it; URL: below that with http:// in the box to the right of it; and an Add Server button.  The third section is titled 'Upload a Package' with Package to Upload:, a box, a Browse button and an Upload button.

So I am assuming that I have to use the Browse button to the right of 'Simple Machines Third-party Mod Site' while I am logged in to my forum, click Download to the right of '3. Ad Management mod' to download it to my computer then use the Browse button to the right of 'Package to Upload:' to upload it to my forum.

Am I right so far?

Well I have done that but I get this error;
An Error Has Occurred!
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

Now I realize from this page on the Mod Site custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=255 that it does not say that Ad Management mod V 2.3 is compatible with SMF version 1.1.4 but I see that this forum does have SMF version 1.1.4 and it is showing Bidvertiser ads.  And on the Example Board it is showing both Google and Bidvertiser ads in all kinds of cool spots.

Would you please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks
Mike

Package Manager (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=49.0;sort=subject)

Read that about the package manager.
Try downloading the file instead to your desktop, then applying the mod by uploading it through the package manager.

Thanks Jeremy, that worked good.

You give us lots of options with the Ad Management mod.  I'll have to remember to come back here to donate a bit to your Paypal account once I'm starting to make some money with the ads.

Thanks again
Mike

FTP Information Required
Some of the files the package manager needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and using it to chmod or create the files and folders. Your FTP information may be temporarily cached for proper operation of the package manager.

Is what i get when I try to install it?

I put my ftp user name and password in and get
550 /vhosts/liveuk.co.uk/subdomains/chris/httpdocs: No such file or directory
Which i know is the right directory and it was selected by the SMF
Anyone?
