Install Problems

When I first tried to install I got the tests all coming back successful, then I got this error:

Fatal error: packageinstall(): Failed opening
/smf/Packages/temp/./install.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/4admin/apache/lib/php') in
/smf/Sources/Packages.php on line 540

when I go back and do it again, I get the error saying that a file is not writable, I chmoded everything to 777 as I saw in another message and I logged back in and out to reset it. I can run the install again, but can't get past the error above, any ideas?

create a folder inside the package folder called temp and chmod that to 777
