LOCAL PATH TO SMF...........PLEASE HELP

each time i try to install a mod, it installs successfully, but does not appear anywhere in the admin section, recently i tried iinstalling the shout box mod on SMF 1.1.5 using the classic yabb theme i decided to make all files writable next it was requesting for
the local port
username
password
local path to SMF
i don't get " LOCAL PATH TO SMF" please help me solve this problem, how do i locate the local path to SMF 
each time i try i get this error 550 Can't change directory to /home1/username/public_html: No such file or directory
