What type of code is need to display a banner? Can someone give me an example.

Are you using an ad code from bidvitiser or google or do you want to just display a banner. ??? If its the later than all you should have to do is upload the banner to your host and put img tags around it:
[img]http://www.yoursite.com/banner.jpg[/img]
Or try these tags if those don't work:
<img> banner url</img>
