Title: alright, got the same "installed, no ads showing" issue..
Post by: jeremx on February 13, 2010, 06:58:53 PM
.. that i've seen other people post on here already. however, i can't seem to find someone with the exact same issue.

i'm using smf 1.1.11
i'm using google adsense ad code
i'm using the classic yabb se theme

i've uploaded the package, i can see "ad manager" to the left and have added my code. i know the code isn't the problem because i've created a quick html page with just the ad code and it works fine.

english is the only option i've got for language so i don't believe that's the problem.

my first inclination is to believe it's something i'm not doing to update an index template because i just can't see anything else that would be a problem. when i've gone in and looked at the templates though, they're php and i've inserted the code only to find that either nothing happened or that the entire site will no longer load. is the classic yabb se theme considered a custom theme that is going to require me to do anything special other than simply loading ad manager and throwing my ad code in?

any suggestions would be awesome as it's been a week and i can't get my ads to load nor can i find anything online explaining why...  :-\

i saw something about not bumping a thread until after it's so old.. however, i don't know that this would really be bumping anything since it's still in the first few threads on the first page. and it's been 9 days so i figured i was probably safe.

so is it that no one can figure this out or has just seen it so many times that they're tired of answering the same questions over and over? if it's the latter, i'll gladly go read any thread that someone can point to where this was addressed to resolution.

thanks in advance to anyone who can help out.

I believe the ad management mod just modifies the default theme.
You will probably need to make the edits to the classic theme as well. I would do a search here first to see if someone made them already.

welp, that's definitely the case. changed it over to default and reset everyone to it and now they're showing. i could have sworn that i had changed it over once before and they didn't show. i'm wondering if i'd done it early enough that the ads hadn't propagated. either way.. thanks for taking a minute to point that out. i appreciate it.

I have the same issue in SMF 2.0 RC 2 and I've posted about it countless times with no help

Here's what happens and the setup -

I use the latest ad management mod and pull ads from essentially two sources - either Amazon, eBay, Google, or through an OpenX server on the same domain and server as the site.

From all of them, ads show up fine on the individual post/topic threads.
None of them show up on the message index
None of them show up on the board index
None of them show up in the welcome area
None of them show up in the site header or footer

Amazon and Google and eBay ads do show up under child boards on sub board indexes, none of the OpenX ads show up there.

I've tried using the OpenX invocation codes in local mode, java mode, html mode etc, with and without cachebuster code, with and without 3rd party server click tracking and so on.  All variations are a no show whether the user is guest, regular, moderator, admin, or a group member of one of the groups.

This has been a rolling issue for nearly two years across many SMF 1.1.x versions, and across many versions of Ad Management.

Something in this mod is not working with message, topic, and board index page positions (including sidebar positions) for both direct ad codes (Google etc) and ad codes via our OpenX server.

If I place the OpenX invocation code direct into the theme template files, it works perfectly, in all code languages, in all positions, at all board levels - but it DOES NOT work when used with Ad Management, nor do the direct codes on index pages except under child boards.

Please will someone involved with the mod's code acknowledge this and advise what I can do about it?

Thanks
